We have arrived!
If you saw my facebook status, you know that I have have arrived safely in the UK. We are all moved into our wonderful flat, with the exception of unpacking our huge suitcases. The flight was good. We had a high school church choir taking up the majority of the plane which was fine until they ran around the plane the whole flight. So no sleep there! Oh well! After a few more bumps in the road we arrived in Heathrow Airport. The motor car took us to our new home, and we managed to climb all four or five floors, with luggage in tow, to get to our humble abode. Thankfully we had Joe from AIFS to help us carry bags and teach us how to use every appliance in the place. Our flat is two stories, so I suppose it isn't flat, but it's great. It's very modern according to Joe. From there we went on a walking tour of London with Jose and were introduced to our new neighborhoods and the local grocery stores, etc. It is all quite interesting. The portions are quite smaller, especially in regards to produce. It was indeed raining the entire walk, but I mean we are in London. It's gonna happen. No complaints here! I have decided I need to invest in a nice trench coat, since the weather is a bit cold and they seem to be very popular. We also ventured out to see Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, and the River Thames. Oxford has so many fantastic stores such as Top Shop and H&M. Piccadilly Circus is home to the Olympic Games countdown thing. Since this is was brief tour, I held off on too many photos and will come back to take plenty. We did manage to snap a few photos of the past weekend's Jubilee celebration decorations. A few of us decided to have dinner at Pret a Manger, a great sandwich cafe and then proceed to go grocery shopping, an adventure in itself. We purchased British peanut butter and Frosted Flakes (yes, they have that here!). At Pret I had a Caesar chicken salad sandwich and some grapes. So delicious. This restaurant is practically on every corner, like Starbucks! We are currently absolutely exhausted from being awake so long and just lounging around our living room. We learned how to use the television, so great! (Not that we are just going to sit and watch TV all day) Tomorrow is orientation!
